The International Institute for Religious Freedom commends the report “Landscape of freedom of religion or belief” presented by Prof. Dr. Nazila Ghanea, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, which provides an overview of the current situation regarding this fundamental human right.
We highly value the attention called for in the report to multilateral organizations and states, warning that the limitation of the participation of representatives of religious or belief communities in international forums, national consultations, or dialogues should not be influenced by discriminatory attitudes towards any religion or belief.
We also appreciate the Special Rapporteur’s recognition of the active role of religious communities in the humanitarian field and in conflict resolution, as well as the increasing denunciations of persecution in the sphere of religious freedom. Additionally, we support the call to international and non-governmental organizations to establish links with the common challenges faced by these and other religious communities.
