International Institute for Religious Freedom

In addition to producing the International Journal for Religious Freedom twice a year, the IIRF promotes the dissemination of high-quality research in other venues. IIRF international director Dr. Dennis P. Petri has a new outlet for publishing such work: in 2024, he became editor in chief of Derecho en Sociedad (Law in Society), a journal based at the institution where he teaches, the Latin American University of Science and Technology in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The fall 2024 issue of Derecho en Sociedad included five articles on religious freedom in Latin America. Four of them have been republished in English by Canopy Forum, an outlet of the Center for the Study of Law and Religion of Emory University, based in Atlanta, USA.

The authors include Teresa Flores of the IIRF-affiliated Observatory for Religious Freedom in Latin America and IIRF research associate Marcela Bordón Lugo. Two of the essays examine country-specific situations in Cuba and Colombia, while the other two cover broader regional issues.
