
Dr. Esther Schirrmacher holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn. She earned an M.A. in Asian Studies and Oriental Languages (Arabic, Persian, Turkish). In 2020, she was Visiting Research Fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, and from 2021 to 2024 Islamic Relations Coordinator of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA). In 2024, she started working with PIRON Global Development in Bonn, Germany.
Esther Schirrmacher is the author of several books and lectures on Islam in M.A. theology programs. She also teaches at Akkon University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, Germany on international emergency and disaster relief. She is a board member of the Institute of Islamic Studies of the German, Austrian, and Swiss Alliance (IfI), and serves on the Academic Board of the International Institute for Religious Freedom as well as the Editorial Board of the International Journal for Religious Freedom.
